Dr. Kim Cullen is an Associate Professor in the School of Human Kinetics and Recreation at Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a cross-appointment in the Division of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine. She is a kinesiologist and applied scientist whose work spans biomechanics, motor learning, ergonomics, and knowledge translation, with a focus on translating movement science into practice.

Dr. Cullen has over 30 years of experience in canine sport as a competitor, coach, and judge, with a particular focus on agility. Her commitment to the sport led her to pursue doctoral research examining risk factors for injury in canine agility – the first PhD-level research programme dedicated to this area – contributing foundational evidence to a discipline that had previously relied largely on experiential knowledge.

Through her applied knowledge translation work, including the Canines in Motion initiative, Dr. Cullen applies principles from movement science to advance evidence-informed training, performance, and course design. Her work emphasizes accessibility, inclusion, and thoughtful system design to support durable, effective dog–handler partnerships and to reduce injury risk while enhancing performance.
